# PS1 GameID

On a PS1 the game ID is sent to the device over the memory card port by whatever launches the game.

## Optical drive emulators

xStation, MODE and PSIO send the game ID when a game is started. When the ODE's own menu is running, the device shows the ODE's logo and keeps the current card mounted; it switches only when a game launches.

## Unirom

Unirom sends the game ID and also needs a memory card of its own for its settings. Unlike the ODE menus, Unirom is treated as a game: the boot card is mounted while Unirom's menu is open.

## FreePSXBoot and tonyhax

## Modified BIOS

## Changing card or channel from the console

The same protocol lets homebrew ask the device to move to the previous or next channel or card. Loaders that support this show it in their own menus.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://8bitmods.gitbook.io/manuals/gameid/ps1.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
