# Updating the firmware

## From the WebUI

Open the settings page. If a newer firmware is available, an **Update** button appears with the version number. The device downloads the firmware and the Local WebUI bundle, verifies them, and restarts to flash. The display shows **Updating Firmware...** with a progress bar.

If the download fails the display shows **Download Error, Please retry!** or **Checksum Error, Please try again** and the device restarts after a few seconds. Nothing has been changed; try again.

## From the storage

1. Download the firmware package from the [8BitMods downloads page](https://distribution.appcake.co.uk/install/8bitmods/apps/memcard-pro2/public).
2. Copy `mcp2.bin` to the root of the storage, and the `os` folder to update the Local WebUI.
3. Insert the storage and power on. The update is flashed before anything else starts, and the file is deleted afterwards.

The current version is shown under **Menu > About**.

{% hint style="info" %}
Do not power off while **Updating Firmware...** is shown. If an update is interrupted, see [Recovery](/manuals/firmware/recovery.md).
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://8bitmods.gitbook.io/manuals/firmware/updating.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
