# Recovery

The device has a separate recovery program that can reflash the firmware if the main firmware no longer boots.

1. Download the latest firmware from the [8BitMods downloads page](https://distribution.appcake.co.uk/install/8bitmods/apps/memcard-pro2/public).
2. Rename `mcp2.bin` to `mcp2_recovery.bin` and copy it to the root of the storage.
3. Insert the storage, hold **Left**, and power the device on. Keep holding for 10 seconds until the display shows **DFU**.

The display shows the logo and **DFU**, then **Firmware Restored** and **Restarting...**. The recovery file is deleted and the device boots normally.

If the display shows an SD error, the storage was not found. If it says no firmware file was found, check the filename.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://8bitmods.gitbook.io/manuals/firmware/recovery.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
