# PS3 Memory Card Adapter mode

In this mode the device behaves like Sony's PS3 Memory Card Adaptor. Plug it into a PS3 over USB and the PS3's save data utility can copy PS1 and PS2 saves to and from the currently mounted card.

## Entering the mode

1. Mount the card you want to use on the PS3 while the device is in the console.
2. Unplug the device, hold **Right** and plug it into the PS3 with a USB-C cable. Release when the display says **Release Button!**.
3. Select **PS3 Adapter**.

The PS3 sees the mounted card and channel. To use a different card, restart into normal mode, mount it, and enter adapter mode again.

## Notes

* Writes from the PS3 go straight to the storage.
* PS2 saves need a PS2-mode card and PS1 saves a PS1-mode card. Switch mode before entering adapter mode.
* If the PS3 does not recognise the card after a firmware update, restart the PS3 fully.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://8bitmods.gitbook.io/manuals/boot-modes/ps3-adapter.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
