# Memory card manager

The **VMU** page manages the four virtual memory cards. Select a card tab to see its saves. **Mounted** marks the card the Dreamcast is using.

| Action             | Result                                                                                                                                    |
| ------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Mount** | Makes this the card the Dreamcast uses. |
| **Download VMC** | Saves the whole card to your computer as a `.vmu` file. |
| **Replace VMC...** | Overwrites the whole card with a card image from your computer. |
| **Upload save...** | Adds a save from a `.VMS` file, and its `.VMI` file if you have one. Without a `.VMI`, enter the name for the card (up to 12 characters). |
| **Format** | Erases every save on the card. |

Each save in the list has buttons to download it as `.VMS` and `.VMI` files, copy it, or delete it. To copy a save to another card, copy it, open the other card and select **Paste**.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Opening the mounted card takes it away from the Dreamcast until you pick another card or leave the page. Do not open it while a game is saving.
{% endhint %}

If the BitLink DC Adapter has a VMU plugged in, the console uses that VMU. You can still manage the virtual cards.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://8bitmods.gitbook.io/manuals/bitlink-dc-dongle/webui/memory-cards.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
