# First connection

The dongle starts in **2.4G** mode, ready for the BitLink DC Adapter. For any other controller, change the input mode first.

## With the BitLink DC Adapter

1. Plug the dongle into a controller port and switch the Dreamcast on. The LED pulses green.
2. Switch the adapter on. A new dongle and a new adapter pair with each other automatically.
3. The LED turns steady green when the adapter connects.

## With a Bluetooth controller

1. Plug the dongle into a controller port and switch the Dreamcast on.
2. Hold the button for 5 seconds and release. The LED turns blue.
3. Press the button once. The LED pulses blue quickly.
4. Put the controller into pairing mode. The LED turns steady blue when it connects.

## With a USB controller

1. Hold the button for 5 seconds and release, twice. The LED turns white.
2. Plug the controller into the USB-C port. The LED turns steady white when it connects.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://8bitmods.gitbook.io/manuals/bitlink-dc-dongle/getting-started/first-connection.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
