# Using the BitLink DC Adapter

The BitLink DC Adapter fits an original Dreamcast controller and connects it to the dongle, wirelessly in 2.4G mode or with a USB-C cable in USB mode. A new dongle and a new adapter pair automatically. Pair again to use a different adapter.

## Pairing over 2.4G

1. Set the dongle to 2.4G mode. The LED is green.
2. Press the dongle's button once. It forgets its adapter and waits for a new one.
3. Press the adapter's power button once. It forgets its dongle and looks for a new one.
4. The LED turns steady green when they connect.

When you set up several players, pair one dongle and adapter at a time.

## Connecting by cable

1. Set the dongle to USB mode and the adapter to wired mode. Both LEDs are white.
2. Connect the adapter's USB-C port to the dongle's USB-C port.

The adapter charges slowly from the dongle while it is connected.

## What the adapter adds

* Rumble on the adapter's built-in motor
* A VMU in the controller, used instead of the dongle's virtual cards
* The adapter's Sync button changes the dongle's memory card
* Wheel mode and Air mouse, using the adapter's motion sensor

The Dreamcast controller's buttons, and the Wheel mode and Air mouse combos, are set on the dongle's WebUI **Mapping** page under **Dreamcast** while the adapter is connected. See [Button mapping](/manuals/bitlink-dc-dongle/webui/button-mapping.md) and [Combo presses](/manuals/bitlink-dc-dongle/webui/combo-presses.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://8bitmods.gitbook.io/manuals/bitlink-dc-dongle/features/adapter.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
