# Buttons and combos

## Power button

| Action                       | Result                                                                                                    |
| ---------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Press while off | Switch on. |
| Press once | 2.4G: forget the paired dongle and pair again. Bluetooth gamepad: forget all paired computers and phones. |
| Press three times | Turn the WebUI Bluetooth on or off (2.4G and wired modes). |
| Hold 5 seconds, then release | Switch off. Does not work while USB power is connected. |

A single press acts about a second after you release the button, so that it is not mistaken for the start of a triple press.

## Sync button

| Action                                 | Result                                                                                               |
| -------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Press once | Change to the dongle's next memory card, when no VMU is in the controller. |
| Hold 3 seconds, release before 5 | Change to the next link mode: 2.4G, wired, Bluetooth gamepad. |
| Hold more than 5 seconds | Drop the link and reconnect to the same dongle. |
| Hold while switching on, for 5 seconds | Start update mode. See [Update mode and recovery](/manuals/bitlink-dc-adapter/firmware/recovery.md). |

## Both buttons

| Action                                    | Result                                                                                                                        |
| ----------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Hold Power and Sync together for 1 second | Show the battery level until you let go. See [Charging and battery](/manuals/bitlink-dc-adapter/getting-started/charging.md). |

Pressing both buttons together never triggers either button's own action, so holding them cannot switch the adapter off or change the link mode.

## Controller combos

| Combo                              | Result                                          |
| ---------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
| L + R + Start, hold 3 seconds      | Switch between 2.4G and Bluetooth gamepad mode. |
| D-pad Down + Start, hold 1 second | Wheel mode on or off. |
| D-pad Right + Start, hold 1 second | Air mouse on or off. |

The Wheel mode and Air mouse combos can be changed in the BitLink DC Dongle's WebUI. See [Wheel mode and Air mouse](/manuals/bitlink-dc-adapter/using-the-adapter/wheel-and-air-mouse.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://8bitmods.gitbook.io/manuals/bitlink-dc-adapter/getting-started/buttons-and-combos.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
